Barbarella Festival 2025

Lasers shine over crowd, in outdoor show

After a seven-year hiatus, Barbarella Festival made its highly anticipated return in 2025, transforming Santo Domingo into the epicenter of electronic music and futuristic experiences. This year’s festival featured a powerhouse lineup of Alesso, Alok, Diplo, and DJ Snake, drawing thousands of fans eager to experience Barbarella’s rebirth. Organized by PAV Events in partnership with Cerveza Presidente, the event carried on the festival’s legacy of bold creativity, this time with a stronger emphasis on production design and technology.

A central highlight of the production was the laser show, designed and executed by Dog From the Moon LLC, under the leadership of Carlos Porrello. With the latest in laser hardware and control systems from Pangolin and Unity Lasers, the visuals elevated the festival to a world-class experience.

Laser Setup and Technology Used

To deliver a truly immersive experience, Dog From the Moon designed a multi-layered laser setup tailored to the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez.

Four Unity Elite 30 PRO FB4 IP65 Lasers were used with distributed scanning to outline and map the stage design, bringing definition and dimension to the structure itself. Two Unity Elite 30 Lasers were positioned on the DJ booth, ensuring that every headlining performance had a powerful focal point of laser energy. Additional depth and dynamics came from eight legacy lasers spread across the stage and six more mounted on the risers, creating moments of heightened impact during artist sets.

Programming and playback were powered by Pangolin’s BEYOND Advanced software, which provided the flexibility to combine choreographed timeline sequences with spontaneous live busking. This programming also leveraged distributed scanning to create precise stage mapping, outlining the unique shapes and design pieces of the stage itself with laser light. The technique gave the stage architecture a striking, futuristic presence while integrating seamlessly into the performances. Control was centralized on a grandMA3 console, which tied the lasers into the larger system of lighting and SFX, ensuring a cohesive production that captured Barbarella’s immersive theme.
