Peso Pluma’s ‘Éxodo’ Tour has revolutionized live music experiences, bringing the stage to life with lasers. Guided by the vision of talented laser programmer Michael Moore, the production team utilized leading laser show technology from Unity Lasers and Pangolin Laser Systems to create a stunning visual display that perfectly complemented Peso Pluma's unique sound each night. "The lasers became an extension of the music itself, enhancing every beat and emotional high point," Moore remarked. This fusion of music and light left fans in awe, redefining the concert experience.
Innovative Design Meets Complex Musicality
The Éxodo Tour presented unique challenges for Michael Moore. “This was my second tour working with Peso Pluma, and my prior experience proved valuable,” he shared. Peso Pluma’s repertoire includes a mix of reggaeton tracks and songs written in 3/3 time signature—a structure uncommon in American music. Add to this the absence of a click track or timecode, and the stakes for precision and adaptability were high.
To meet these demands, the laser rig was designed with three distinct sections that could function independently or as a cohesive unit:
- Group 1: Eight truss units positioned stage left and right, focused inward.
- Group 2: Six spoke truss units.
- Group 3: Four upstage units, concealed under the upstage deck by Tait’s carpentry team.
“The upstage units were particularly innovative,” Moore noted. “They were safely distanced from pyrotechnics but hidden behind a large black drape, making them invisible when not in use.” This setup not only ensured safety but also maintained a clean aesthetic of the stage.
Laser Show Technology Used
At the core of the laser operation was an intricate three-monitor setup, driven by Pangolin BEYOND 5.5 Advanced Multimedia Software. Each monitor had a distinct role:
- The first monitor displayed the main workspace grid, featuring a flash-only page alongside a cue/multi-effect trigger page.
- The second monitor showcased a secondary workspace with song-specific 4x4 cue grids, with each row's cues meticulously tailored for different zones or the entire rig.
- The third monitor was a dedicated preview window, crucial for last-minute adjustments. This setup ensured precision and adaptability, allowing for seamless coordination and real-time modifications during the performances.
“At every show, we featured multiple guest artists,” Moore explained. “Often, we wouldn’t know who the guest would be until hours or even minutes before the show. The preview monitor allowed me to pause output and preview the next cue, adjusting colors and speeds in real-time based on comms.” This flexibility ensured seamless integration, even with surprise performances by artists like 50 Cent, Junior H, Nathanael Cano, Ice Spice, and Migos.
With a dynamic stage featuring constant movement from dancers, band members, and guest artists, safety was a top priority. Laser Tech Ron Lake implemented an E-stop system with controls at both FOH and side stage, ensuring immediate response capability. “Ron’s solution gave us the best of both worlds—comprehensive safety and ease of operation,” said Moore.
Paired with the BEYOND software, the tour featured 23x Elite 30 PRO FB4 lasers, which proved to be the backbone of the visual design. Their power and reliability allowed the team to execute complex cues effortlessly. Designed for versatility, Unity Lasers provided the ideal balance between robust output and fine-tuned control, making them the perfect choice for the Éxodo Tour’s diverse and demanding setlist. They seamlessly enabled the operator to deliver intricate, synchronized visuals that perfectly matched Peso Pluma’s dynamic performances, filling arenas with vibrant, sharp beams.
